We eat our young and it's too easy to hate your friends: Why The Future Is All We Have

Capitalism is a catch all for the entire economic, military, cultural system we live in: outstanding wealth for the very very few, crushing poverty or alienating work drudgery for virtually everyone else; constant wars with weapons so lethal that they often kill the perpetrator and target alike; super celebrities stalked in the crosshairs throwing up their last meal in the next stall to their bulimic emulating fans. We need nothing less than a complete and entire revolution. Burn the plantation down. Start over.

This may not happen in our lifetime. The left is a big sprawling mess, making mistakes, and under the gun throughout the whole world. The best minds get wasted as comments on five-reader blogs or hidden in obscure academic journals, but the actual program to overthrow the system is, let's be clear, unknown by anyone (except everyone and the endlessly repeated mantra of organize, organize, organize). No one knows. And the pieces themselves, from activists to media to ideas are like a monster pile of car parts in a garage: yes, properly put together, it could get us someplace, but disassembled it's going to just be sitting there. We may not be headed anywhere nice for awhile.

There comes this awful moment when some people realize this and turn on each other, as if the other people working to change the world are to blame for the fact that the world isn't changing. This is a cynical moment of the worst sort.

But we can't give up or in or mistake transient domination for the way things will be forever. So this website exists to remind you, us, all of us, that there are awesome things afoot, that the world aint got you beat, and that, even if it's just in the details, some things are going to be alright. The Future Is All We Have.
